Netscape: The Browser That Started it All Dies a... →
It birthed the web as we know it. But tomorrow, February 1, marks the demise of Netscape Navigator, the first commercial web browser. Navigator will continue to function should you happen to have a recent copy stashed away. But American Online, which has been Netscape’s guardian during its long, downward slide in popularity, will no longer support the browser and will stop releasing updates....

Make your Time Machine drive more useful and more... →
Filed under: Tips and tricks, Leopard As we’ve mentioned recently, one of the conditions for a successful bare-metal restore of a Time Machine backup is a Leopard install DVD; you boot from the DVD, choose your backup as source material, wait some number of hours, and then you’re back in business. Wouldn’t it be good, wondered a tipster at Macosxhints.com, if you could combine...

Embracing weightless data →
Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Internet Tools, MacBook Air I can’t stop talking about the MacBook Air. It’s so thin, so light and so gosh-darn sexy (in the way that only a machine shaped like a two thousand-dollar toilet lid can be). Since the topic seems to have worn thin with my kids — my 4-year-old insists that the lack of a Firewire port is ludicrous and my 2-year-old is...

Filed under: Macworld, Analysis / Opinion, Apple, Developer With all the hysteria of the Macworld taking precedence last week, it appears that Apple slipped out a not-so-insignificant update to the OS X Human Interface Guidelines. After a fairly stagnant revision history in the last few years, the much-discussed ‘UI Bible’ (and I use the term loosely) has been updated to encompass OS X...
